Best Hotels in Phuket: Picks by Budget and Area

Choosing a hotel in Phuket can make your head spin. Thousands of options, dozens of areas, prices ranging from 400 to 50,000 baht per night. I've been living in Phuket for over 4 years, explored every area, checked guests into dozens of hotels, and know exactly where it's worth staying — and where it's money down the drain. Here's my honest guide to the best hotels in 2026.

How to Choose an Area: Quick Overview

Before choosing a hotel, decide on the area. In Phuket, the area determines everything: the vibe, beach access, nearby restaurants, noise level. I wrote in detail about areas in the article where to stay in Phuket: area guide, but here's the short version:

Budget Hotels: Under 1,500 Baht per Night

Budget doesn't mean bad. In Phuket, for 800-1,500 baht (roughly $22-42 USD) you can get a clean, air-conditioned room with Wi-Fi, often with a pool. Here are my tested recommendations:

The Memory at On On Hotel (Phuket Town)

A legendary hotel in the old town — this is where "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed (the hostel scene). The 1929 building has been fully renovated: stylish rooms in colonial style, spotless, great Wi-Fi. Surrounded by all the restaurants and cafes of the old town, the Sunday market, and museums.

Price: 800 - 1,200 baht/night. Best for: backpackers, solo travelers, history and architecture enthusiasts. Downside: 30-40 minutes to the beach by transport.

Lub d Phuket Patong (Patong)

A stylish hostel-hotel from the Thai chain Lub d. Pods with curtains, private rooms, common areas with a bar and cinema room. Location — right in the center of Patong, 5 minutes to the beach and Bangla Road. Perfect balance of price, design, and location.

Price: 500 - 1,000 baht/night (pod), 1,200 - 1,500 baht (private room). Best for: young travelers, solo, digital nomads.

PJ Patong Resortel (Patong)

A budget hotel with a pool, 10 minutes from Patong Beach. Rooms are simple but clean with air conditioning. The pool is a huge plus at this price point. Breakfast is included in most rates.

Price: 900 - 1,500 baht/night. Best for: couples and families on a tight budget.

Kata Beach Center (Kata)

A small guesthouse in Kata, walking distance to the beach. Clean rooms, friendly owners, good Wi-Fi. No frills, but everything you need is there.

Price: 700 - 1,200 baht/night. Best for: budget travelers who want to be near the beach.

Mid-Range: 1,500 - 4,000 Baht per Night

Phuket's sweet spot. For this price, you get a solid hotel with a pool, breakfast, great location, and a level of service you can be proud of.

Novotel Phuket Kata Avista Resort & Spa (Kata)

My favorite in the mid-range. A stylish hotel on a hill overlooking the sea, three pools (one infinity with panoramic views), good breakfast, spa. Kata Beach is 10 minutes away by shuttle (free) or 20 minutes on foot downhill. Rooms are spacious and modern.

Price: 2,500 - 4,000 baht/night. Best for: couples, families, those who want quality without overpaying.

The Nap Patong (Patong)

A trendy boutique hotel in Patong. Designer rooms, rooftop pool overlooking the city, excellent restaurant. 5 minutes to the beach. The perfect combination of style and location at a reasonable price.

Price: 2,000 - 3,500 baht/night. Best for: couples, young travelers, design lovers.

Deevana Plaza Phuket (Patong)

A reliable 4-star: large rooms, two pools, buffet breakfast, fitness center. Convenient location — between the beach and Jungceylon Mall. Many English-speaking guests, staff accustomed to international travelers.

Price: 2,000 - 3,500 baht/night. Best for: families, couples, those who want a proven classic.

Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay (Kalim)

A new hotel near Patong but in the quiet Kalim area. Panoramic sea-view rooms, infinity pool, excellent rooftop restaurant. Patong is 5 minutes away by tuk-tuk.

Price: 3,000 - 4,000 baht/night. Best for: those who want to be near Patong without the noise.

Luxury: From 4,000 Baht per Night

Phuket is one of the best islands in the world for luxury travel. All major global brands and unique boutique resorts are represented here. If your budget allows — here's where to invest.

Kata Rocks (Kata Noi)

My personal favorite in Phuket. A designer resort with "sky pool" villas — each villa has its own infinity pool overlooking the sea. Minimalist architecture, otherworldly views. A restaurant with a tasting menu, a sunset bar, a world-class spa. This isn't just a hotel — it's a work of art.

Price: 8,000 - 25,000 baht/night. Best for: couples, honeymoons, design and architecture lovers.

Trisara (Nai Thon)

One of the best resorts in Southeast Asia. Private villas with pools nestled in tropical forest, a private beach, a restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef. Everything is maximally private — you won't see your neighbors. Service at a level that's hard to put into words.

Price: 15,000 - 50,000+ baht/night. Best for: total privacy, special occasions, VIP.

Amanpuri (Pansea)

A legend of world hospitality. The first Aman hotel, opened in 1988. Thai pavilions among coconut palms, a private beach, a fleet of boats, a Japanese restaurant, a holistic spa. Amanpuri isn't just a hotel — it's the standard against which everything else is measured.

Price: 25,000 - 100,000+ baht/night. Best for: Aman philosophy connoisseurs, ultra-luxury.

Banyan Tree Phuket (Bang Tao)

A classic luxury resort with villas and private pools. Part of the Laguna Phuket complex — access to all its infrastructure (golf, restaurants, beach). Excellent spa, couples programs. Consistently high standards with no surprises.

Price: 7,000 - 20,000 baht/night. Best for: families with budget, couples, extended stays.

COMO Point Yamu (Cape Yamu)

An unusual pick: a resort on Phuket's east coast overlooking Phang Nga Bay. Design by Paola Navone, Italian cuisine, one of the best spas on the island. No beach (east coast), but two enormous pools and absolute tranquility.

Price: 5,000 - 15,000 baht/night. Best for: architecture lovers, spa enthusiasts, those not tied to the beach.

Booking.com vs Agoda: Which Is Cheaper

Short answer: for Southeast Asia, Agoda is usually 10-20% cheaper. Booking.com and Agoda belong to the same company (Booking Holdings), but their pricing strategies differ. Agoda is an Asian platform, and Phuket hotels give it better rates.

My booking rules:

Seasonal Pricing: When It's Cheapest

Period Season Prices Recommendation
November - AprilHigh100% (baseline)Book 2-3 months ahead
Dec 20 - Jan 10Peak150-200%Book 3-4 months ahead, minimum
May - JuneShoulder60-70%Great time to save
July - OctoberLow50-60%Maximum discounts, rainy

Pro tip: May-June is my favorite period to recommend. Rains are just starting (usually 1-2 hours in the afternoon), the sea is warm, beaches are empty, and prices are half of high season. Luxury villas for 7,000 baht instead of 15,000 — totally real.
