Old Phuket Town: A 3-Hour Walking Guide
Phuket Town is the island's main historical district. Here you'll find preserved Sino-Portuguese mansions from the 19th century, vibrant street art, some of the best restaurants on the island, and a Sunday walking street. UNESCO has awarded the city the status of a City of Gastronomy. Over the past 4 years, I've explored it 50+ times. Below is a walking route covering 3 hours with tried-and-tested stops.
Start: Soi Romanee -- The Most Photogenic Lane
Begin at Soi Romanee -- a narrow lane with colorful Sino-Portuguese houses and cozy little cafes. This is Phuket's most Instagrammable spot. Brides in white dresses come here for photo shoots -- that's the kind of place it is.
It's about 200 meters long; stroll through slowly and snap photos at every facade. On Soi Romanee you'll find Macau Street Food (dim sum 30-80 THB) -- a perfect breakfast stop.
Head to Thalang Road
The main historical street. Two-story Sino-Portuguese buildings from the 19th century line both sides: pastel facades, shutters, arcade sidewalks (known as "five-foot ways"). These houses were built by Chinese tin traders 100-150 years ago.
Walk slowly. Note the Hua Lampong House, the Standard Chartered Bank Building, and China Inn. The Sunday Walking Street takes place on Thalang Road.
Street Art: Find the Murals
Old Town has over 30 street art murals. The main ones:

Sunday Walking Street
If you're in Phuket Town on a Sunday, don't miss the Sunday Walking Street from 4 PM to 10 PM. Thalang Road is closed to traffic, and 200+ food stalls set up shop. Street food, live music, performances, and shopping.
The atmosphere is like a Thai carnival. Best to arrive at 4:30 PM -- after 6 PM it gets very crowded.
Sunset: Khao Rang Hill
End your day at Khao Rang Hill. Five minutes by motorbike from the center, it's a hilltop viewpoint. Tunk-Ka Cafe is the best restaurant with a view, serving Thai and Western food. Lunch runs 800-1200 THB. The sunsets are superb.

From Patong -- 20 km, 40 minutes by motorbike/taxi (300-500 THB). From Karon -- 18 km, 35 minutes (350-500 THB). From Mai Khao -- 35 km, 45 minutes (700-900 THB).
