Phuket Weather by Month: Temperature, Rain & Best Time to Visit

Phuket weather overview — sunny beach and blue sky

Phuket weather determines everything about your trip — which beaches are safe for swimming, which islands are open, and how much you will pay for your hotel. After four years of living through every season on the island, I have tracked temperatures, rainfall, and sea conditions month by month to give you the most accurate picture possible.

The short version: November to April is the dry season (high season) with calm seas and sunny skies. May to October is the rainy season (low season) with lower prices and fewer crowds, but some beaches get rough waves. Here is how each month breaks down.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Phuket?

November to February for the best weather. December–January is the absolute peak. If you want to save money and do not mind some rain, June–September offers the biggest discounts.

Can you swim during low season?

Yes, but not on all beaches. West coast beaches (Patong, Kata, Karon) get strong waves and red flags. East coast beaches (Rawai, Chalong) stay calm year-round. Some west coast beaches like Nai Harn are sheltered and swimmable even in August.

How much does it rain in Phuket?

Even in the wettest month (September), it does not rain all day. Typical pattern: sunny morning, short heavy downpour in the afternoon (30–60 minutes), then dry again by evening. You can absolutely enjoy a vacation during the rainy season.
