Phuket with Kids in 2026: Where to Go, What to Know, Best Activities
Phuket is one of the best islands in Asia for a family holiday. It has everything: warm sea, gentle sloping beaches, water parks, zoos, family-friendly restaurants, and excellent medical infrastructure. I've been living on the island for several years and I see families arriving with kids of all ages -- from infants to teenagers -- and leaving happy. In this guide, I'll share how to organize your trip so that both parents and kids have a great time.
Best beaches for kids
Not all Phuket beaches are equally suitable for little ones. Here are the ones with gentle slopes, shallow water, and safe conditions:
Kata
My top pick for families. A wide strip of fine sand, gradual entry into the water, and small waves (during high season). Along the beach you'll find restaurants, shops, and cafes with high chairs. Within walking distance are swings, slides, and playground areas at hotels. More about all the beaches in my article best beaches in Phuket.
Bang Tao
A long and wide beach where kids can run for hours. The shallows stretch out for dozens of meters. Nearby is the Laguna complex with several hotels, each with pools and kids clubs. The downside: restaurants and shops can be far away if you're not staying at the Laguna complex.
Nai Harn
In the high season it's perfect: calm water, beautiful scenery, a lake nearby for walks. But in the low season, there can be strong waves and rip currents -- don't risk it with kids from May through October.
Kamala
A quiet family beach without the noise. Gentle entry, few crowds. Nearby is Carnival Magic (an evening show). A solid choice for those who want peace and quiet.
Water parks
Andamanda Phuket
The newest and largest water park on the island, opened in 2022. Thai-themed design with slides for all ages -- from toddlers to thrill-seekers. There's a wave pool, lazy river, and a zone for the youngest kids. Adult ticket: 1,490 THB (about $40), kids: 1,190 THB. Located in the center of the island, 15-25 minutes from any area.
Splash Jungle
Located at Mai Khao beach on the north of the island. More compact but cozy. Excellent kids zone with shallow pools. Adult: 1,290 THB, kids: 690 THB. Convenient if you're staying in the northern part of the island.
Blue Tree Phuket
Not quite a water park, but more of an entertainment complex with a lagoon: cliff jumping, water slides, SUP boards. There's a food court and playground. Entry: 300-500 THB. A good option for half a day.
Zoos and nature
Phuket Elephant Sanctuary
An ethical elephant refuge where you can feed and observe elephants in their natural habitat. No riding -- they genuinely care for the animals here. Kids love feeding the elephants bananas and watermelons. Cost: 3,500 THB for adults, 2,500 for children. Book in advance -- spots are limited.
Monkey Hill (Toh Sae Hill)
A free attraction in Phuket Town. Several hundred macaques live on the hill -- kids love it. But be careful: the monkeys can snatch food, sunglasses, or phones. Don't show bags of food and keep valuables in your bag.
Tiger Kingdom
You can take photos with tigers of various sizes -- from cubs to adults. Children from age 4 are allowed with small tigers (800-1,200 THB). This place is controversial: some say the tigers are sedated, others say they're simply accustomed to people. Your call.
Phuket Aquarium
Small but charming aquarium on Cape Panwa. Underwater tunnel, rays, sharks, and sea turtles. Perfect for kids aged 3-8. Entry: 180 THB for adults, 100 for children.

Message usTheme parks and shows
Carnival Magic
A spectacular theme park in Kamala -- a mix of Thai carnival, restaurants, shows, and rides. Open in the evenings. Visually impressive for both kids and adults. Tickets from 2,500 THB.
Siam Niramit (closed; alternative -- Phuket FantaSea)
Phuket FantaSea in Kamala -- an evening show with buffet dinner. The show features elephants, acrobats, and special effects. Kids enjoy it, though it can be a bit long for toddlers under 4. Tickets: 1,800-2,200 THB with dinner.
Family-friendly restaurants
Good news: kids are welcome almost everywhere in Phuket. Thai people adore little ones and will play with your child while you eat in peace. But here are a few places with kids' menus and extra amenities:
- The Coffee Club (Central Phuket) -- kids' menu, high chairs, air conditioning, coloring books.
- Swensen's -- ice cream chain with kids' sets, found in every mall.
- Two Chefs (Kata) -- European cuisine, kids' portions, near the beach.
- Central Phuket food court -- huge selection, low prices, clean, air-conditioned. More about restaurants in my article best restaurants in Phuket.
Practical matters
Strollers
Sidewalks in Phuket aren't up to European standards. But in malls, hotels, and along promenades a stroller works fine. For the beach, go with a lightweight umbrella stroller rather than a bulky one. If you forgot yours, you can buy one at Big C or Tesco Lotus for 1,500-3,000 THB.
Diapers and baby food
Everything is available. Pampers, Huggies, Merries -- at any 7-Eleven, Tops, or Big C. Jarred baby food at Makro and Villa Market. Baby formula at Boots and Fascino pharmacies. Prices are comparable to what you'd pay in the US or Europe.
Pharmacies and healthcare
Phuket has excellent healthcare. Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Dibuk Hospital both have English-speaking doctors. Pharmacies (on every corner) carry ibuprofen, electrolytes, and antihistamines. Make sure you get travel insurance that covers your children.
Safety with kids
Sun
The number one danger. The sun in Phuket is intense -- even on cloudy days. Essentials: SPF 50+, sun hat, rash guard for the beach. Best to avoid the sun from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. I've seen kids burn in just 30 minutes without protection.
Sea
In the high season (November-April) the sea is calm, but always watch the flags on the beach. Red flag means no swimming. In the low season, waves and currents are genuinely dangerous, especially for children. Choose beaches with lifeguards. More about risks in my article 5 tourist mistakes in Phuket.
Food
Thai food can be very spicy. Ask for "mai pet" (not spicy) or order at places with European cuisine. Wash fruits, don't drink tap water (use bottled). Overall, hygiene in Thai restaurants is fine -- food poisoning is rare if you avoid obviously sketchy street stalls.
Accommodation for families
Villas with a pool
The best choice for families with kids. Your own pool (can be fenced), kitchen, washing machine, multiple bedrooms. The child can play and make noise without worrying about neighbors. Prices: from 3,000 THB/night for a modest villa up to 15,000+ for luxury. More details in my article villa rental in Phuket.
Hotels with kids clubs
If you want animators looking after the children while you relax, choose hotels with kids clubs. The best in Phuket: JW Marriott (Mai Khao), Angsana Laguna (Bang Tao), Hilton Arcadia (Karon). Kids clubs are usually free for hotel guests and accept children from age 4.

Final thoughts
Phuket with kids is easy and enjoyable if you know the ins and outs. Choose the right beach, pack sunscreen, don't try to cram in too many excursions, and give your child (and yourself) time to acclimatize. The island's infrastructure is excellent -- everything you need for children can be bought locally. Come visit and don't worry: Thai people adore kids, and Phuket was made for family holidays.
