Phuket International Airport — Complete Guide
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is the main gateway to the island, serving millions of tourists annually. Located in the north of the island, it connects Phuket with major cities across Asia and Europe.
Terminal Overview
The airport has two terminals: the international terminal and the domestic terminal. Both are modern and well-equipped with restaurants, shops, currency exchange, and free WiFi. The international terminal was renovated in 2016 and can handle up to 12.5 million passengers per year.
Getting From the Airport
Several transfer options are available:
- Taxi meter: 600-1500 THB depending on destination (Patong ~800 THB)
- Airport bus: 100-200 THB to major beaches
- Grab: Often cheaper than taxis, 500-1200 THB
- Private transfer: Pre-booked, 800-2000 THB
- Car rental: Available at the airport from 800 THB/day
SIM Cards and Currency
Buy a Thai SIM card right at the airport — AIS, DTAC, and TrueMove have counters in the arrivals hall. Tourist SIM packages start from 299 THB for 8 days. ATMs and currency exchange booths are available, though rates are better in town.
Departure Tips
Arrive at least 2 hours before international flights. The duty-free area has a good selection of Thai products. Remember: you cannot bring more than 1 liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes out of Thailand.
