Phuket in February 2026: Weather, Prices & Things to Do

Phuket in February — turquoise sea and clear skies at Surin Beach

In short: February is the driest month on Phuket and, in my opinion, the best time to visit. Daytime temperatures hit 32°C, nights cool down to 23°C, and the sea is a warm 28°C. There are only 3 rainy days the entire month. The ocean is perfectly calm, underwater visibility is at its peak, and all islands and excursions are fully operational. Prices are still on the high side, but they ease off a bit after the New Year rush. If you can only pick one month for Phuket — make it February.

Air and Water Temperature in February

February is slightly hotter than January — daytime temperatures hold steady at 32°C, sometimes reaching 33°C on windless days. Nights are a comfortable 23°C — perfect for sleeping. Sea water temperature is 28°C, same as January.

The key difference in February is the minimal humidity, hovering around 60–65%. The heat feels significantly more bearable than the same 32°C in April or May. There is no stuffiness, and breathing feels easy. Many long-term expats consider February the most pleasant month of the year.

Wind in February is light and steady — the northeast monsoon is still active but already winding down. This creates a gentle breeze on the beaches that does not interfere with sunbathing but provides a pleasant cooling effect.

Rainfall: How Much Rain in February

February is the record-holder for dryness. Just 3 rainy days all month and roughly 20–25 mm of precipitation. That is less than any other month. When it does rain, it is a 10–15 minute drizzle, usually at night. Many tourists spend two weeks in February without seeing a single drop.

Cloud cover is minimal. The sun shines 9–10 hours a day. This means you can get a tan in two days (and a sunburn just as fast — sunscreen is mandatory). The UV index in February reaches 11–12 at noon — an extreme level.

The sea in February is like a swimming pool. There are no waves, even on the exposed west coast beaches. Red lifeguard flags are extremely rare. You can safely swim with children on any beach.

What Is Open and What Is Closed

Everything is fully operational in February — it is the middle of the high season:

Things to note:

Best Beaches in Phuket in February

In February, you can head to any beach — they are all in perfect condition. Here are my recommendations:

Nai Thon — a small beach near the airport, yet quiet and scenic. In February there are few people here (everyone flocks to Patong and Karon), white sand, trees for shade. Planes take off spectacularly overhead.

Laem Singh — a hidden cove between Kamala and Surin. You can only get there by longtail boat (200 baht) or on foot along a trail. In February the trail is dry and safe. Very few people, fantastic snorkeling by the rocks.

Ao Sane — a tiny bay near Nai Harn. Rocky entry, but you can see fish right from the shore. In February the water is crystal clear — the best free snorkeling spot on Phuket.

Bang Tao (northern section) — the stretch near Anantara and Twinpalms. Flour-fine sand, gentle slope into the water. Beach clubs nearby for lunch and cocktails. February sunsets from this spot are fiery.

Paradise Beach — paid entry (200 baht), but in return you get cleanliness, sun loungers, and snorkeling. In February it is open daily, with fire shows in the evenings.

Best Excursions in February

February is arguably the best month for sea excursions. Dead calm, maximum visibility, and zero weather cancellations:

Similan Islands — a must-do. In February, underwater visibility reaches up to 30 m. Manta rays and whale sharks are frequently spotted (especially around islands 7–9). From 2,500 baht; book 4–5 days ahead.

Diving at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang — the best dive sites in the Andaman Sea. Sheer walls, giant sea fans, a chance to see mantas. Certified divers only. From 5,000 baht for two dives.

Phi Phi at sunrise — some operators offer a 5:30 AM departure. You arrive at Maya Bay before the crowds. In February, the sunrise over the limestone cliffs is a breathtaking sight.

Kayaking through mangrove forestsPhang Nga Bay. Calm water, caves, monkeys. In February the air is crystal clear, and photos come out with perfect light. From 1,500 baht.

Deep-sea fishing on a speedboat — tuna, barracuda, giant trevally. February's calm seas let you venture far offshore. From 3,500 baht for a half-day.

Hotel Prices in February

February is 10–15% cheaper than January, but still firmly in the high season. After the New Year peak, prices ease off slightly but do not drop to March levels.

Pro tip: if Chinese New Year falls in early February, book the second half of the month. Prices are lower, the Chinese tourists have left, and the weather is exactly the same.

Events and Holidays in February

Chinese New Year — if it falls in February, Phuket's Old Town turns into a festival: dragon processions, red lanterns, firecrackers, special street food. Be sure to visit Soi Romanee in the evening.

Valentine's Day (February 14) — hotels and restaurants offer romantic dinners and couples' packages. Surin Beach in the evening features live music and candles on the tables.

Phuket Yacht Regatta — an international regatta, usually held in early February. It is a beautiful spectacle: dozens of sailboats in Chalong Bay. You can watch for free from the pier.

Farmers' markets — in February, organic markets with local produce pop up around the island: Boat Avenue (every Sunday), Chillva Market (Thursday–Saturday).

What to Pack for Phuket in February

My Personal Experience: February in Phuket

I have been living in Phuket for over four years, and February is my favorite month. It was in February that I first understood why people fall in love with this island. I remember stepping out onto Nai Thon during my first February here — an empty beach, turquoise water without a single wave, not a cloud in the sky. I sat there until lunchtime without noticing the hours pass. Since then, every February I make a point of visiting beaches I usually skip in the daily grind: Laem Singh, Ao Sane, the northern end of Bang Tao. The February sea is something else entirely. The water is so clear that at Ao Sane you can see fish while standing knee-deep. I am not a diver, but in February even basic shore snorkeling becomes a mini-adventure.

Another perk of February that you only notice when you live here year-round: after the January rush, the tourist crowds thin out a bit. Restaurants are no longer packed, there is more room on excursion boats, and traffic eases up slightly. Yet the weather remains flawless — the same high season, minus the frenzy. If I could recommend just one month for a first trip to Phuket, it would be February.

What to Wear in Phuket in February

February is a month when you can get by with a minimal wardrobe. During the day — shorts, a light cotton T-shirt or untucked shirt, sandals or flip-flops. For an evening stroll along the waterfront, the same shorts and a clean shirt will do — there is virtually no dress code on Phuket. If you plan to visit temples (Wat Chalong, Big Buddha), bring one pair of light trousers or a long skirt and a sleeved shirt — you will not be allowed in without them. For snorkeling and extended time in the water, I strongly recommend a rash guard — it protects against both sun and accidental coral scrapes. Everyday footwear should be as open as possible; let your feet breathe.

Practical Tips from a Local

February is the best month for diving. If you are planning to get your PADI Open Water certification, February is ideal. Maximum visibility, no currents, warm water. The course costs 12,000–15,000 baht for 3 days.

Head to the northern beaches. 80% of tourists get stuck at Patong–Karon–Kata (see all beaches). But in the north (Nai Thon, Mai Khao, Nai Yang) you will find empty beaches, sea turtles nesting, and exactly the same weather.

Try a sunset cruise. Find travel companions for a cruise — it is a great idea. In February the sky is clear almost every day, making the sunsets epic. A catamaran cruise with a glass of wine (1,500–3,000 baht) is one of the finest evenings you can have on the island.

Eat at the markets. Tourist restaurants jack up prices in the high season. At night markets (Malin Plaza, Chillva) a full dinner costs 150–300 baht. The quality is often better than in restaurants.

Use the Bolt app. Taxis in Phuket are a sore subject. Bolt (similar to Uber) works well and costs 2–3 times less than tuk-tuks. From Patong to the airport — 450 baht vs. 1,200 baht by tuk-tuk.

Do not plan the whole day. 32°C wears you out by midday. The ideal rhythm: activity in the morning (before 11:00 AM), rest at the hotel or an air-conditioned cafe in the afternoon (11 AM – 3 PM), beach and dinner in the evening.
