Phuket Airport handles over 18 million passengers per year, and for most tourists it's the first impression of the island. The airport is located in the northwest, near Mai Khao Beach. Depending on your hotel location, the ride can be anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. Below are all the ways to get from HKT airport to your hotel in 2026, from cheapest to most comfortable.

Bolt / Grab — Best Value
Bolt is the most popular ride-hailing app in Phuket. Download the app before you land, add a payment method, and request a car from the arrivals area. Drivers usually pick up from the parking lot across the road from the terminal (a 2-minute walk).
- To Patong: 300-500 THB depending on traffic and time of day
- To Kata/Karon: 400-600 THB
- To Rawai: 500-700 THB
- To Bang Tao: 200-350 THB
- Wait time: 3-10 minutes, sometimes longer at peak hours
Tip: prices surge during late-night arrivals (after 11 PM) and when multiple flights land simultaneously. If the price looks too high, wait 5-10 minutes and check again. Source: Bolt Thailand, April 2026.
Taxi Counter (Metered / Fixed)
Official taxi counters are located right at the arrivals hall exit. You pay a fixed price based on your destination. A 100 THB airport surcharge applies on top of the meter fare. Taxis are air-conditioned sedans or minivans.
- To Patong: 800-1,200 THB
- To Kata/Karon: 1,000-1,400 THB
- To Rawai: 1,200-1,600 THB
- To Bang Tao: 600-800 THB
- Pros: no app needed, AC car, fixed price, available 24/7
- Cons: 2-3x the price of Bolt

Message usMinibus (Shared Transfer)
Shared minibuses depart from the ground floor of the terminal. They run to major tourist areas and wait until they have enough passengers (usually 8-10 people). Cheap but slow.
- Price: 200-250 THB per person
- Routes: Patong, Kata, Karon, Phuket Town
- Wait time: 20-40 minutes until the van fills up
- Travel time: 60-90 minutes (multiple stops)
Airport Bus (Smartbus)
The cheapest option. The Phuket Airport Bus (formerly Smartbus) runs along the west coast from the airport through major beach towns. Flat fare of 100 THB regardless of distance.
- Route: Airport - Layan - Bang Tao - Surin - Kamala - Patong - Karon - Kata
- Frequency: every 60-90 minutes, 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Travel time to Patong: approximately 90 minutes
- Payment: cash only (100 THB)
Note: no service to Rawai, Nai Harn, or Phuket Town. Great for Patong or Kata on a budget. Source: Airports of Thailand (AOT).
Car Rental
Rental desks are in the arrivals hall. International companies (Hertz, Avis, Budget) and local operators are available. A small car starts at 800 THB/day, SUVs from 1,500 THB/day. International license or IDP required.
- Pros: full freedom, cheaper than taxis if staying 3+ days
- Cons: left-hand traffic, aggressive driving, parking can be difficult in Patong
- Insurance: always take CDW (collision damage waiver)
Distances from the Airport
| Destination | Distance | Drive Time |
|---|---|---|
| Mai Khao | 5 km | 10 min |
| Bang Tao / Laguna | 22 km | 25 min |
| Patong | 35 km | 45 min |
| Karon | 45 km | 55 min |
| Kata | 48 km | 60 min |
| Rawai / Nai Harn | 55 km | 70 min |
My Recommendation
For most travelers, Bolt is the best option. It's 2-3 times cheaper than a taxi counter, the car arrives in minutes, and you see the exact price before you confirm. Just make sure to download the app and set up payment before you land. If you arrive very late and can't find a Bolt, use the taxi counter -- it's a fixed price and available 24/7.
If you're on a tight budget and have time, the Airport Bus at 100 THB is unbeatable -- but only works for the west coast beaches.
